Dear {contact_data~title} {contact_data~lastName}:
As your constituent, I’m writing to urge you to strengthen public health protections for frontline workers in the next COVID-19 relief bill. This means supporting key provisions of the HEROES Act. These extend the paid leave provisions from the Families First Coronavirus Response Act through the end of 2021 and also eliminate the loophole in that Act which allows companies with more than 500 employees to escape the paid sick leave requirement. At a time when it’s hard to find common ground across party lines, according to polling by the Bipartisan Policy Center, paid leave is among the very few policies today that enjoy widespread bipartisan support. I also urge you to extend those provisions guaranteeing paid sick leave beyond the current public health emergency. Strengthening worker protections also means supporting the provisions of the HEROES Act that direct the Department of Labor to promulgate an emergency temporary standard to be followed by a permanent standard to protect employees from occupational exposure to the coronavirus. More than 33,000 workers in meatpacking and food processing alone have been infected, and at least 125 have died, as companies decline to implement OSHA’s recommended guidelines. Until these guidelines are required and enforced, companies will continue to ignore them and put workers’ lives at risk. I hope you agree with me that supporting essential workers with access to essential benefits and safe workplaces during the pandemic is a moral imperative. Please include these essential provisions in the next coronavirus relief bill.
Sincerely, {user_data~First} {user_data~Last} {user_data~City}, {user_data~State}
