Ask Meijer for Healthier Options at Checkout
A recent assessment revealed that the majority of foods and beverages Meijer offers at checkout are unhealthy. In fact, only 3% of food offerings in Meijer’s checkout lanes include healthier options.
Many people, including children, struggle to eat well, the last thing we need is supermarkets pushing junk food on us at checkout.
Sign the Petition: Ask Meijer to rethink the foods and beverages they sell near the cash register, and instead offer products that support individuals’ and families’ efforts to eat well.
TO: Rick Keyes
SUBJECT: Healthier Choices at Checkout, Please
Dear Mr. Keyes:
Please stop marketing candy, soda, and other unhealthy snacks at checkout. As one of the nation’s largest supermarkets, Meijer should be a leader in responsible business practices.
Increasingly, grocery stores are responding to consumer demand for options that are lower in salt, saturated fat, and sugar. National chains like Aldi and CVS have already committed to offering healthier foods and beverages at checkout, and Meijer should too.
In a country where many people, including children, struggle to eat well, the last thing we need is supermarkets pushing junk food on us at checkout. In fact, 80% of Americans think that supermarkets should do more to make it easier for people to healthfully. What will you do to improve the options in your stores’ checkout lanes?
